I, personally, like staring down the Grim Reaper on every rainy interstate offramp.

Shit, who doesn't? I even let all 190ish nearly-dead horses loose merging in the XJ...

I proudly say that every time I drive, I go WOT at least once during the drive. Because a redline a day keeps carbon buildup away. Also, because the Volvo has only 114 old, Swedish horses to move itself around.

With the traffic in LA, on ramps are the only time you can test your 0-60 time!

With my ridiculously long on ramp to the highway I let go of every single horse and get up to about 80ish to merge. I only do it when no one is front of me because people HAVEN'T LEARNED TO MOVE OVER TO LET PEOPLE MERGE SAFELY.

I would love to get on the freeway at the max... but I'd hate to smash into all the fucking stopped cars.

I'm not that much of a lowlife. 740 GLE with the manual!

Though, I also am going to pick up a 940 in a couple of weeks, and I /do/ have a 122 wagon in the back yard..

With great horsepower comes great responsibility for braking!

Still more of a lowlife than if it were a 760. 760>740 by 1/12 of a 240.

Oh ya torque, I got 225 lb ft of that good stuff under my hood to go with my measly 160 american horses

I would add my, "I do, every frickin' time I use an on ramp as all mine warn me that there is no acceleration lane and it goes directly into the merge with the speeding traffic," to the list if I knew what post this was referencing.

Any car with a 0-60 over 8.5 sec was eliminated from my purchasing consideration for this very reason.

I just completed 2 6 hour drives from Canuckistan, through Michigan, and into Indiana ( and back). In a snowstorm on various, interstate, state, county and possibly dirt paths.

I thanked the car gods every ramp for the almighty Father Snow Tire, and Son Horsepower and the Holy Torque that saved a wretch like me. From many, many crazy, bad and truck Drivers.

I'm not sure what the length of an on ramp is in the US but I didn't have any major issues in my old 14 seconds to 60 '88 Polo in the UK.

It varies state to state and ramp to ramp. Some have nice acceleration and merge lanes that parallel the interstate for a few hundred feet and others are death traps that have 100 feet of usable on ramp and no merge lane. So the morons who barely tap the accelerator can be seen stuck on the shoulder with a turn signal on.
